New Delhi: Honda Cars India is expected to discontinue its two top-end products – Civic and CR-V in India. This comes after the Japanese maker decided to completely shut production at its Greater Noida plant.
Honda will be making vehicles at its Tapukara plant in Alwar district of Rajasthan.
“Due to stoppage of production at its Greater Noida Unit, there will be no production of CR-V and Civic as both these models cannot be made in Tapukara plant which was conceived as an integrated plant with high efficiency to produce small and mid-size cars,” a Honda spokesperson told NDTV carandbike.
It may be mentioned that Honda was struggling to sell the two products. In the last six months it could sell only 100 units of CR-V and about 850 units of the Civic.
Honda’s top seller is the Amaze which averages around 5,000 units a month while the City does an average of 4,000 units a month. The WR-V sells over 1,000 units a month and the Jazz does nearly 700 units.
When the Civic and the CRV were first introduced in India in the 2000s, both the cars were a roaring success. Unfortunately, the second innings failed to make a mark.
