Puri: A honey badger was reportedly killed after it was hit by a truck in Odisha’s Puri district on Monday.
According to sources, the honey badger was crossing the road near Nuharkiri under Nimapara block of the district in the morning when the truck hit the wild animal, also known as ratel.
The vehicle driver could not see the rare wild animal for poor visibility due to dense fog. On the impact of the collision, the honey badger died on the spot.
The locals, who spotted its body lying on roadside after several hours, informed the Forest department. Later, a team of Forest officials went to the spot and identified the animal as a honey badger.
Since honey badgers are rarely found in the area, they were investigating from where the rare species came to the locality.
