The arrested has been identified as Samson Imoko Alika, a Nigeria resident.
Briefing the media, inspector-in-charge Mina Bindhani said that the complaint regarding a honeytrap and the fraud transactions was registered on January 13. “The victim came in contact with a woman reportedly from the United Kingdom through FaceBook and later exchanged texts on Whatsapp. She informed him about having sent gifts, including gold biscuits, a Rolex watch and an iPhone. A person identifying himself as a customs officer at Delhi airport then asked him to make payment of duty to receive the gifts. The victim kept transferring lakhs of rupees but never got the gifts. It was then that he realised that he had been trapped and duped,” she said.
