Bagalkot: Crime in the name of honour killings continue to happen in India.
In a horrific incident in Karnataka’s Bagalot on Tuesday, a minor girl and her lover were killed, and their bodies dumped in the nearby Krishna river. The crime was allegedly committed by members of the girl’s family.
A full-fledged search is on, but their bodies have not yet been recovered.
Police have arrested the girl’s 19-year-old brother Ravi Hullannanavara (19), and her cousins Hanumantha Malnadada (22) and Beerappa Dalwayi (18).
According to police, the teenaged girl’s family took the couple out on the pretext of reuniting them.
The two were taken in separate cars to the river bank. On reaching the spot, the 22-year-old man was allegedly brutally thrashed to death while the girl was strangled with her dupatta, IANS reported.
The accused dumped the dead bodies into the Krishna river. Fearing that the will be identified, the trio took off their clothes except underwear.
The victim’s father lodged a missing complaint with Nargund police station on October 3.
In order to mislead police, the minor girl’s father filed a kidnapping complaint on October 11.
Police got suspicious when the girl’s brother provided unconvincing answers during questioning. He ultimately succumbed to the pressure and confessed to killing the duo.
