Kochi: Abdul Sattar, general secretary of the banned Islamic outfit Popular Front of India (PFI), was on Wednesday arrested from Kerala’s Karunagappally hours after he wrote on Facebook that the outfit was dissolved, PTI reported.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs banned the PFI and its several associates for five years earlier in the day.
“All PFI members and public are informed that the Popular Front of India (PFI) has been dissolved. MHA has issued a notification banning PFI. As law-abiding citizens of our great country, the organization accepts the decision,” Sattar posted.
Sattar had allegedly been absconding after calling for a Kerala bandh on September 23 to protest nationwide raids on the PFI offices and arrests of its leaders.

Last Friday’s bandh turned violent as PFI activists went on a rampage, damaging buses, public property and attacking the general public.
Of the 100-plus PFI leaders arrested from 15 states for allegedly supporting terror activities in India, the maximum of 22 were from Kerala.
Sattar is likely to be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
PFI apart, Rehab India Foundation, Campus Front of India, All India Imams Council, National Confederation of Human Rights Organisation, National Women’s Front, Junior Front and Empower India Foundation have been banned under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
