Berhampur: Police here nabbed two persons of a house burglary gang and seized 540 gram gold, 100-gram silver and other valuables from their possession.
Three buyers of the stolen items have also been arrested.
The two accused are Santosh Sahu of Reddika Sahi Patapur and Deepak Mahapatra of Khalingi village under Patapur police limits. Buyers of the stolen gold jewellery have been identified as Manoj Senapati, Siba Shankar Sahu and Rabindra Sahu of the city.
According to a release issued by Berhampur police on Thursday, they set out in search of the robbers following a series of complaints from Berhampur and Gopalpur.
In one case, gold jewellery weighing 600 gram and Rs 4.42 lakh cash were looted from the house of one Sunil Panigrahi at Bedabandha Sahi under Gosaninuagaon police limits on September 23 night. The following day, a case was registered under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC.
Besides, several cases of house burglary were reported from various places like Lochapada, Shakti Nagar, Govinda Vihar, Banchhanidhi Nagar, Saradhabali and Basanta Vihar in the last one year.
To track the cases, Berhampur SP formed different teams. The teams were led by Berhampur SDPO and IICs of Gosaninuagaon, Badabazar, B Town, BN Pur, Digapahandiand and Sadar police stations.
On a tip-off, police raided different places on Wednesday night and arrested Santosh and Deepak. A car, three motorcycles, two TVs, a laptop and two cameras were also recovered from them.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to have jointly committed the burglaries in the last one year, Berhampur ASP Pinak Mishra told mediapersons.
The accused reportedly used to watch Youtube videos and plan their loots.
