Bhubaneswar: Police have arrested the caretaker of an elderly woman’s house on theft charge in Bhubaneswar.
According to sources, 82-year-old Sujata Mohanty staying in Khandagiri area of the city had engaged Tapas Nayak to help her in household work and take care of her 110-year-old father-in-law in July.
While Sujata’s husband had died, her elder son was staying in New Delhi and the younger son was staying with his family separately in another house in the city.
ACP Pradip Rout told the media persons that Tapas was working in Sujata’s house from 2021 but left the job in 2022. He was again engaged by Sujata in July 2023. But Tapas went absconding in August.
In November, when Sujata looked into the locker of the steel almirah in her house, she found a gold necklace weighing 35 gram missing. Suspecting Tapas, she filed a complaint at Khandagiri police station.
The police stated investigation and tracked the location of Tapas from his mobile phone. They arrested him on Sunday and recovered the gold ornaments from his possession, said Rout.
