Berlin: A nine-year-old burglary case has been solved in remarkable fashion.
German police said DNA found on a half-eaten piece of sausage matched that of a man who was detained in France in connection with an unrelated crime, AP reported.
According to police, the sausage belonged to the victim and the burglar appeared to have taken a bite from it when he broke into the house in March 2012.
The German investigators were recently alerted that French police had taken a matching DNA sample from a man involved in a violent crime.
The accused, however, may escape punishment as the statute of limitations on the burglary has expired which will prevent him from being extradited to Germany.
