Dehradun: Daler Mehndi faced an embarrassing situation during a stage show in Uttarakhand.
The popular Punjabi singer was performing at the Kunjapuri Fair in Tehri district when Uttarakhand minister Subodh Uniyal stepped onto the stage and confronted him for having allegedly consumed alcohol.
The programme was organised as part of Navratri celebrations, and Uniyal, the MLA from Narendranagar constituency, questioned Daler how he could perform under the influence of alcohol at a religious gathering dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga.
“There is a Durga Mata programme for Navratri, and you are singing at the event after drinking alcohol, which is not appropriate,” the minister told Daler.
“We called you so that our people could be entertained. You are making a fool of us. This is wrong… You were called because you have a big name, we should respect that,” the minister tried to explain.
Mehndi tried to interject by saying, “Sir, I request you with folded hands… please leave the stage.”
Uniyal ultimately got off the stage, and Daler seemed to resume the programme.
