New Delhi: Flamboyant left-hander Abhishek Sharma, part of India’s T20 International team, has blamed IndiGo Airline for ‘ruining’ his holiday.
The 24-year-old cricketer from Punjab alleged misconduct by a staff at Delhi airport which caused him to miss a flight.
In a strongly-worded statement on Instagram, Abhishek claimed he was unnecessarily redirected between counters, even naming a counter manager and demanding action.
Expressing frustration, Abhishek stated that his one-day holiday was consequently ruined, calling it his “worst airline experience.”
Abhishek has been in the Indian squad for the five-match T20I series against England, which starts at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on January 22.
“I had the worst experience with Indigo at Delhi airport, and the behaviour of staff, especially counter manager Ms Sushmita Mittal, was absolutely unacceptable. I arrived on time at the correct counter, but they redirected me unnecessarily to another counter. only to tell me later that check-in was closed, making me miss my flight. I only had a one-day holiday, which has now been completely ruined. To make it even worse, they are offering no further helpful assistance. This is by far the worst airline experience, and worst staff management I’ve ever had,” Abhishek said in his Instagram story.
It’s likely that Abhishek, who led Punjab recently in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (Punjab lost in the quarterfinal to Maharashtra), had planned a short break before joining the national team for the T20I series.
The Indian team is likely to assemble in Kolkata this weekend.
Abhishek made a fine start to his T20I career, scoring a century in his second match — against Zimbabwe in Harare last July. Thereafter, he has struggled for consistency.
