Mumbai: Actress Rakul Preet Singh and actor-producer Jackky Bhagnani are set to tie the knot in February.
They had reportedly planned a destination wedding in the Middle East initially.
But now they are likely get married in Goa on February 22.
So what led to the change in plans?
Well, it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to rich families to have destination weddings in India influenced their decision, reported Pinkvilla.
“Rakul and Jackky had initially planned for their wedding to take place in the Middle East. After nearly six months of meticulous planning, everything was pretty much in order. However, following the call from the Indian PM in December, urging rich and influential families to choose India as the venue for their big events, Rakul and Jackky reconsidered their original plans and relocated the wedding to India,” a source told Pinkvilla.
Addressing delegates at Uttarakhand Global Investors Summit last month, Modi had urged affluent families to arrange destination weddings at Indian locations like Uttarakhand instead of going abroad.
“There is an old saying that marriages are made in heaven. But then why are young couples going abroad for their wedding instead of coming to the land of gods (Devbhoomi). My prescription to the young and rich couples is that there should be a movement like ‘Wed in India’ on the lines of Made in India,” the PM said.
During his last Mann Ki Baat programme also, Modi brought up the ‘Wed in India’ proposal.
