Bhubaneswar: As the new mutation of COVID-19 in the second wave has infected the children in large number across the country, an eminent pediatric doctor of Odisha has come up with some valuable tips.
Briefing the media on Wednesday, eminent doctor of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics (Sishu Bhawan), Cuttack Dr Prabhakar Mishra said it is found that the new mutation of the COVID-19 has affected around 20% of children and adolescents. What is more worrying is that they develop complications in kidneys and lungs 4-5 months after their recovery.
Stating that loose motion, skin redness and itching are common symptoms of a COVID patient, he said the infected children can be given the medicines that are given to the elders infected with the virus.
However, he said the recovery of the infected children, who have been vaccinated against malaria, TB, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), and tetanus (DPT) and polio, is much faster.
Mishra said the COVID-positive child can be taken care of by the mother at home. But the mother, as a precautionary measure, must use the mask.
