New Delhi: The Ministry of Human Resource and Development (HRD) is likely to be rechristened as Ministry of Education. A proposal to this effect has already been tabled and the final decision will be taken in a Cabinet meeting later on Wednesday.
Led by former ISRO chairman K Kasturirangan, a group of experts, in a key recommendation, had first proposed that the name of the ministry should be changed in the draft New Education Policy. This decision has been taken to focus on education and learning.
With this new National Education Policy, the government has decided to usher in reforms in education in order to create a vibrant knowledge society by ensuring higher quality education to all, thus making India a “global knowledge super power”, a government statement had said earlier.
The new policy will stress on the use of technology in the education sector and enhance learning and adapting by application of technology.
