In Bhubaneswar, excise sleuths seized brown sugar worth Rs 20 lakh from Haladipadia slum at Laxmisagar and arrested a woman, identified as Mahima, in this connection.
Acting on a tip-off regarding ganja smuggling, a team of excise officials raided a house and recovered 200 gram brown sugar.
“The accused woman used to procure the banned substance from Balasore and Kolkata. She used to supply the same to different parts of the state through agents, including minor boys,” an excise official informed.
In another incident, excise flying squad officials seized 10 gram of brown sugar and ganja weighing around 8 kg following simultaneous raids at Gandhi Nagar in Cuttack and Nuagaon of Khurda district. Two persons were arrested for allegedly possessing the contraband.
