Malkangiri: Huge cache of Maoist arms, including assault rifle INSAS, ammunition and equipment were seized during a joint operation by Odisha Police, BSF, CoBRA and Andhra Police in Swabhiman Anchal (cut-off area) of Malkangiri on February 15
DGP Abhay said that it was one of the biggest counter-LWE operation in the recent past and was carried out to provide security to road construction work, which is being opposed by the Maoists, in the region.
He said that the search operation area domination exercises was launched on the basis of information recovered from Maoists documents and electronic devices after an exchange of fire between a team comprising SOG and DVF commandos of Odisha police and Maoists at Goiguda village on January 15.
The arms and ammunition were recovered from Maoist hideouts and dumps in the Swabhiman Anchal and adjoining areas.
“We suspect that the arms and ammunition were hidden by Maoists of Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (ABSZC) and these were looted from police in the past,” the DGP said.
Combing and area domination exercises have been intensified in the region, he added.
