Malkangiri: Security personnel have recovered a huge cache of explosive materials used by Maoists at a place in neighbouring Chhattisgarh bordering Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Sunday.
The recovery was made following an exchange of fire between the jawans of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and district voluntary force (DVF) and Left wing ultras in a forest of Kademetaru in Narayanpur district.
Sources said the jawans were carrying out a combing operation in the forest when Maoists opened fire at them, leading to a gun-battle that lasted for several hours. While the rebels fled the spot, some of them are suspected to have been injured, sources added.
Later, the jawans conducted a search operation in the forest and found a huge cache of explosive materials including an IEDs. The Combing operation is being carried out in the forest and nearby areas.
Following the incident, jawans will intensify the combing operations in the areas abutting the forest, sources added.
