Koraput: Intensifying the drive against drug smuggling, police arrested two persons and seized over 151 kg ganja when the contraband was being illegally transported in a vehicle in Odisha’s Koraput district.
Acting on an information that a huge quantity of cannabis was being smuggled to Maharashtra, a special team of police personnel stepped up patrolling near Badadebata under the jurisdiction of Padua police station in the district late on Thursday night.
During the operation, the police team intercepted an SUV passing through the route. ‘Press’ stickers were put on the front and rear of the vehicle, sources said.
Following thorough search of the vehicle, cannabis packed in seven large polythene bags were found. The ganja, weighing around 151 kg, was seized and two persons were arrested.
The two were identified as Milind Chikde and Subham Sanjay Shinde of Aurangabad area in Maharashtra. The ganja was being smuggled from Padua to Maharashtra.
The accused are being interrogated and further investigation is in progress.
