Sambalpur: Excise officials seized huge quantity of silver ornaments from a car from Maharashtra in Odisha’s Sambalpur on Tuesday.
According to sources, the Excise sleuths were carrying out inspection of vehicles on the basis of information about smugglingof ganja on Samblur-Jharsuguda Biju Expressway. During the drive, they checked a car bearing registration number of Maharashtra.
The Excise officials found huge quantity of silver ornaments being carried in the car. The ornaments were hidden in secret chambers of the car.
Suspecting smuggling of jewellery, they informed the Commercial Tax and GST enforcement officials. On reaching the spot, the CT and GST officials seized the silver ornaments and detained three persons travelling in the car. Further investigation is on.
