Mumbai: An IndiGo flight from Bahrain in Kuwait to Hyderabad in Telangana was diverted to Mumbai on Tuesday after a “human bomb” threat.

Officials said that threat mails were received simultaneously at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad and Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi regarding a passenger carrying a bomb on flight 6E1234. The flight was immediately diverted to the Chhatrapati Shivaj

i Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai, where it landed under full emergency.

“The aircraft – an Airbus A321-251NX – departed from Kuwait at 1.56 am and landed in Maharashtra’s Mumbai at 8.10 am. It was taken to an isolation bay upon landing and security personnel boarded the aircraft to carry out a search. Nothing was found on board,” an official said.

An official statement from IndiGo is awaited.

“A case has been registered and efforts are on to find the source of the emails. All passengers are safe and the aircraft has been declared fit to fly,” the official said.

A similar incident had occurred on November 23 when the Hyderabad airport had received an email, warning of a bomb on another flight from Bahrain. That flight was diverted to Mumbai as well.

The threat turned out to be a hoax.
