Chandigarh: Singer Daler Mehndi got relief from Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday as he was granted bail in a 2003 human trafficking case, ANI reported.
The singer had been sentenced to two years of imprisonment by Patiala court two months ago.
Confirming the singer’s bail, his lawyer Sumanjit Kaur said: “I had filed a review petition and taking cognizance of it on behalf of the Punjab Haryana High Court, it has been suspended and Daler Mehndi has got bail. He will be released from jail.
The singer was taken into custody by Punjab Police in July following the court’s order. His application for release on probation had been dismissed by the court earlier.
Complainant Bakshish Singh had alleged that Daler and his bother took Rs 13 lakh from him to arrange his immigration to Canada.
“Daler Mehndi and his brother Shamsher Mehndi took Rs 13 lakh from me to send me to Canada. Neither did they send me abroad, nor did they return my money. At that time, they used to do this work of sending people abroad,” ANI quoted Bakshish as saying.
