Bhubaneswar: With the police initiating a probe into the death of playback singer Humane Sagar, fellow singer Arpita Choudhury has moved the Orissa High Court seeking anticipatory bail in connection with the case.
As per information, Choudhury filed a joint anticipatory bail petition along with music director Somesh Satapathy, after both were named in an FIR lodged by the singer’s mother, Shefali Suna, who has held them responsible for her son’s death.
Sources said the anticipatory bail plea was made apprehending arrest following the registration of the case, in which nine
people have been named as accused. Sagar’s mother had sought an investigation into the circumstances leading to his death.
It may be noted that Shefali Suna had lodged the FIR earlier this month at Markat Nagar police station in Cuttack, naming Somesh Satapathy, Arpita Choudhury, and seven others. In her complaint, she alleged that her son’s death was not natural and accused those named of being responsible for his deteriorating health and eventual demise.
Based on the complaint, police reopened the Humane Sagar death case and began a fresh probe. Investigators have begun examining financial transactions of all nine accused and have sought call detail records spanning multiple years as part of the investigation process, officials said earlier.
Additional DCP of Cuttack had earlier stated that all those named in the FIR would be summoned for questioning in connection with the case.
Humane Sagar passed away on November 17 while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
