New Delhi: If you got disillusioned and disheartened with humanity seeing oxygen cylinders and critical medicines being sold in black market during the peak of COVID-19 second wave, here’s a story to warm your hearts.

A migrant labourer, who had left behind a bag containing Rs 1 lakh in cash at a railway station by mistake, got it back thanks to a Delhi Police constable.

Vijay Kumar, the only breadwinner of his family who works in Delhi, had withdrawn Rs 1 lakh from his bank account as he wanted to build a home for his children back home in UP’s Khurja.

He boarded the Bareilly-New Delhi Intercity Express from Shivaji Bridge railway station with two bags of ration commodities that he had purchased, but forgot to take the bag with cash, according to a PTI report.

Constable Narender Kumar, on duty at Shivaji Bridge station, was making rounds at the platform after the train had left the station. He found a carry bag on the bench and enquired if it belonged to any passenger on the platform.

“I decided to keep the unclaimed bag with me. On checking it, I found two cash bundles amounting to Rs 1 lakh with some rotis packed in a foil paper, water bottle, cheque book, bank passbook, Aadhar and ration card,” Narender was quoted as saying.

Identifying Vijay Kumar from his cards, Narender informed his seniors and tried to contact the owner, but was unable to reach him.

Vijay returned to Shivaji Bridge station in the evening, and was handed over the bag by the constable after due formalities.

“Vijay Kumar left his carry bag at the station. Our constable Narender found the bag unclaimed and returned the belongings to Kumar along with his cash of Rs 1 lakh,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) Harendra Kumar Singh said.
