Hundreds Participate In Mini Marathon Against Acid Attack

Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of people, young and old, participated in a mini marathon, ‘Stop-A Thon’, against acid attack on Sunday.

The marathon jointly organised by A New Hope and Institute for Social Development was flagged off by Women and Child Development Minister Prafulla Samal, who stressed the need to eradicate acid violence from the society by generating awareness.

This marathon is a noble endeavour to change the mindset of people in the society to stop acid attacks, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Director General of Police Rajendra Prasad Sharma said that Odisha Police is considering tough measures to stop violence against women, including acid attacks.

Among others, Cuttack-Barabati MLA Debashish Samantaray, acid attack survivor Pramodini Roul, KIIT University founder Achyuta Samanta and Institute for Social Development director Subhashree Das were present.

The four-kilometre-long marathon was taken out from Kalinga Stadium and culminated at the same venue with the participation of students and acid attack survivors from different parts of the state.
