Angul: Police arrested three persons, including a husband and wife, on Sunday for allegedly duping lakhs of rupees from job aspirants in Angul district.
The accused were identified as Ranjan Kumar Tripathy of Rajkishorepada, his wife Mitali Tripathy and Ranjan Kumar Sahoo from Rengali area.
The police also seized three bank passbooks, three ATM cards, pan card, and one motorcycle from their possession.
According to sources, a job advertisement was published in a daily newspaper on December 5. It sought candidates for different industrial areas in Odisha.
After reading the advertisement, one P Dharma Rao of Paralakhemundi in Gajapati district had applied for a job for his son. He had sent an e-mail to the id, mentioned in the advertisement.
After sending the email, Rao received a call. He was asked to deposit Rs 52,000 in a bank account for as the registration fee. The caller also gave an account number. As Rao was worried about his son’s job, he had sent the money and called the number to seek the appointment letter. But the accused did not receive his call.
Later, Rao registered a police complaint in in Angul.
During the course of investigation, Angul police traced the accused and arrested them.
