Hyundai Considering Affordable EV For India

Bhubaneswar: Electric vehicles (EVs) are starting to gain interest in India. The biggest challenges preventing their popularity are price and range.

Tata’s Nexon EV retails around Rs 15 lakh while that of Hyundai Kona is upwards of Rs 22 lakh. The defunct Mahindra e2o was priced below Rs 10 lakh but suffered from the lack of range which was around 100km.

MD of Hyundai India S.S.Kim recently told HT Mint that the company is reviewing the Indian market condition and infrastructure situation and will come up with the best option for here. “It’s a no.1 priority in our future strategy,” he said.

Hyundai was one of the first global automakers to launch a long-range electric vehicle in India. With the government keen on promoting EVs, other carmakers are carefully looking at policies to bring in India-centric electric vehicles.
