Hyundai Gets 120 Bookings For Electric Kona

India’s first long range car, Hyundai Kona, has received 120 bookings within 10 days of its launch.

There were 10000 test drive requests during the same period, noted Hyundai. Considering the high value of the car (Rs 25.30 lakh), this is a good number.

“The digital enquires and footfall at our dealerships have increased as customers are excited to experience electric cars. The change of perception and adaptability is clearly visible as there is a huge interest and request for test drives,” said Vikas Jain, national sales head, Hyundai Motor India.

The main reason, experts note, is the long 452 km range on a single charge which isn’t offered by any other electric car in the country. Mahindra’s e2o and Tata Tigor EV have a range of 100-140km only.

The electric Kona comes with a 37.2 kWh lithium battery and it takes just 57 minutes to charge from 0-80 per cent using a 50kW DC charger. The supplied wall charger takes 6 hours while a normal 16A plug-point will take 19 hours.

Hyundai is giving 8 years warranty on the battery pack and 3 years on the car. The company claims that running costs of this electric car is 1/5th that of an internal-combusion car.

The electric Kona was introduced in international markets in April 2018 and has sold 15000 units worldwide. However, it will be available in 11 Indian cities only to begin with.
