Hyundai on Tuesday launched the country’s first long-range electric SUV – the Kona. The car comes with a 39.2kWh lithium battery that gives a range of 452 km!
The Kona is going to be available in just one fully-loaded variant and is priced at Rs 25.30 Lakh. There is an option of dual tone colour, and that costs an extra Rs 20000.
It is powered by a 100 kW electric motor which produces 131 bhp power and a whopping 395 Nm of peak torque. It is a front-wheel drive vehicle.
Hyundai claims that 80 per cent charge can be done in just 50 minutes using a fast charger. It will take 6 hours to charge using a regular household socket. The company will also offer 24×7 vehicle to vehicle charging support in case anyone runs out of charge.
Hyundai will be giving a 3 years/ Unlimited KM warranty with the Kona. The battery will come with an industry-first 8 years/160,000 km warranty.
The SUV is loaded with goodies such as LED Headlamps, leather seats, 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, smart electric sunroof, and more. Safety wise, it has 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill assist, rear camera with guidelines and tyre pressure monitor.
The Kona Electric will be sold across 15 dealerships in 11 cities and Hyundai is setting up fast chargers across the country. The first ones will be installed in Delhi, Chennai Mumbai and Bengaluru.
Hyundai had earlier said that it will be manufacturing the Kona locally at its Chennai plant.
During the launch, Hyundai announced that they will be launching 44 eco-friendly cars within 2025 and 23 of them will be pure electric.
