Bhubaneswar: The IAAF will present an award for the best athletics photograph of the year at this year’s IAAF Athletics Awards 2017 on 24 November, said an official release on Tuesday.
Any professional photographer who has been officially accredited at an athletics event in 2017 can take part. Photographers are requested to submit one photograph by email to iaafphotoaward@iaaf.org, and include a caption, the date the photograph was taken and the image’s technical information, the release informed.
Entries should be no larger than 5MB and must be received by midday Monaco time on Monday 30 October. A panel of experts will judge the photos and will select the top 25 entries. The shortlisted images will also form part of a photography exhibition which will be held alongside the IAAF Athletics Awards between 22 and 26 November in Monaco.
The panel will select the top three images from the shortlist. The finalists will be informed of their selection by 15 November and invited to the IAAF Athletics Awards in Monaco on 24 November. The winner will be announced live on stage at the IAAF Athletics Awards.
According to the release, running alongside the contest for the athletics photograph of the year will also be a separate prize awarded for the best photograph of the year taken by a Fan Photographer. Entries should be submitted via Twitter between 1 and 15 November by using the hashtag #IAAFPhotoOfTheYear.
The three finalists in the contest for professional photographers will form the panel to determine the winner of the award for amateur photographers. The winner will be announced on 27 November and will receive travel, accommodation and tickets for two people for the IAAF World Indoor Championships Birmingham 2018.
