Jaisalmer: IAS officer Tina Dabi is again in news for her recent decision as the DM of Jaisalmer to evict Pakistani Hindu migrants from government land.
She started trending on Twitter as the migrants staged a protest outside the district collectorate after the administration reportedly bulldozed their 28 temporary settlements in Amarsagar gram panchayat, about 4 km from the district headquarters.
According to TOI, the migrants alleged that their homes were set on fire, and one of the women was forcefully dragged from the protest site. They have, however, declared that they would not leave their protest until they were relocated somewhere else.
Defending the move, the IAS officer said that the action was taken on the basis of complaints received from the sarpanch of Amarsagar and the locals. The complainants had claimed that the Hindu migrants illegally occupied the land belonging to the state govt urban improvement trust.
Dabi told the media that notices were also served to the refugees to vacate the land but they refuse to budge. She added that the state government has no policy of rehabilitating migrants who had not been granted citizenship of India.
In April, the Jodhpur Development Authority had razed about 200 structures, most of them belonging to migrants from Pakistan, in an anti-encroachment drive.
