Minneapolis: Netizens are saying #ICan’tBreathe while people in Minneapolis are out on the streets to protest the death of George Floyd, an African-American.
On Monday, Minneapolis police arrested George Floyd, responding to a call relating to an alleged forgery. A video went viral showing Floyd handcuffed and pinned to the ground and one police officer’s knee pressing against his neck while the man pleaded he was in pain and couldn’t breathe. Shortly after, Floyd died at a nearby hospital.
Though the four officers, who were present at the scene, have been suspended, social media and US citizens are outraged over the heinous act against the Afro-American man.
Protests erupted from Tuesday evening at the intersection where Floyd was last recorded alive. The protesters then moved to one of the police precincts, as per a report by CNN.
Twitterati is furious over the death of Floyd, with directors and famous personalities expressing their disbelief and calling out #ICan’tBreathe.
People are also using the hashtag #ImwithKap in reference to former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s photo that shows him kneeling in The National Football League.
Kaepernick at that time sparked a kneeling campaign during the playing of national anthem to protest police treatment against black people in America.
Famous American personalities like LeBron James, an American professional basketball player and Morgan J. Freeman, an American director, took to social media along with Kaepernick’s photo to condemn the death of Floyd.
Social media users as well as people on the streets are furious and are demanding strict action against such acts of racism and crime.
