Balasore: Daughter of a farmers’ family in Odisha’s Balasore district, Sonali Mallick has secured the third rank in Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) entrance examination for a PhD in Agricultural Extension.
A native of Oupada in the district, Sonali did her UG from Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT) and PG from Benaras Hindi University. Last year, she submitted her research paper on ‘Climate Change Information Need For Rice Growers of Odisha’ for which she worked closely with the farmers of Balasore.
She was also felicitated by the Odisha government for her research work.
“Having been grown up in a farmers’ family, I was inclined towards this subject. My cousin inspired me to enrol in OUAT,” she told Odisha Bytes.
Sonali wants to do further research on climate change. “More research on the implementation of the latest technology in the farming sector will help improve the financial condition of the farmers,” she added.
Shrabani Sahani of Rourkela is the other student from Odisha to have bagged a position in the entrance exam with the seventh rank in this subject.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) had recently declared the results of ICAR AIEEA 2020 undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programmes and ICAR AICE-JRF/SRF PhD 2020 on its official website.
