ICC World Cup: India Drub South Africa By Massive 243 Runs

Bhubaneswar: Continuing their winning march, hosts India beat South Africa by a massive 243 runs in the 37th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday.

After winning the toss, Indian captain Rohit Sharma elected to bat first. Aided by an unbeaten knock of 101 by star batsman Virat Kohli, the hosts scored 326 runs for 5 wickets in 50 overs.

In reply, South Africa’s wickets tumbled in quick succession and the entire team was folded up with just 83 runs on scoreboard. The Proteas lost all their 10 wickets in only 27.1 overs.

It was South Africa’s lowest total in the history of ODI World Cups. Their previous lowest total in ODI World Cups was 149 runs against Australia in 2007 edition of the tournament. This was also their lowest total against India in the ODI.

The Proteas’ batsmen found themselves helpless before the deadly Indian bowling attack as they lost five wickets for just 40 runs in 13.1 overs. Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers as the left-arm off-spinner bagged five wickets for 33 runs.
