IED Planted By ‘Maoists’ In Odisha Forest Defused

Malkangiri: The 99th battalion of BSF on Friday defused an improvised explosive device (IED) allegedly planted by Maoists targeting security forces, during a ‘search and destroy’ operation in Kusumput forest area in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Friday.

After spotting some marks, the team led by inspector Mohan Lal Saini reported the matter to Commandant 151 battalion BSF Ajay Kumar, an official release said.

A bomb disposal team from Korput was despatch and it found an IED in a two-litre steel container under a stone and a bunch of wire under another stone approximately 5 metres away. At around 1.30 pm, the team destroyed the IED in situ after taking due precautions. No damages to government property or injury to any person were reported, it said.

The site was about 1.5 km from Bahadurguda in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and 7.5 km from the Company Operating Base (COB) of the BSF at Govindpalli, it added.
