Kataka: Three days after Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Kataka’s Chauliaganj police station Beauty Mohanty was found dead under mysterious conditions, her post-mortem report was released on Tuesday, revealing that she died due to asphyxia.
Sources said the preliminary autopsy report, prepared by the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (FMT) at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Kataka, has been submitted to the police.
Police sources said the preliminary report states that the IIC died due to asphyxia. However, officials clarified that the final opinion on the cause of death will depend on the results of the viscera analysis, which is expected to provide further forensic evidence.
The post-mortem was conducted by a specially constituted medi
cal board at SCB Medical College following the officer’s death on July 4.
The findings have raised fresh questions over the circumstances surrounding her death, with investigators examining the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal incident. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the cause and circumstances behind the officer’s death.
This reportedly prompted the local authorities to intensify their efforts.
The Commissionerate Police are investigating the matter from multiple angles, with a special team consisting of an Additional DCP, an SP, and two Inspectors-in-Charge reviewing all available evidence.
According to Kataka DCP Rishikesh Dnyandeo Khilari, investigators have already recorded statements from Mohanty’s husband and her two sisters.
This apart, Mohanty’s bank records, call details, and her laptop are being scrutinised by the police. Her mobile phone was sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) in Bhubaneswar for an in-depth digital analysis of her WhatsApp conversations, social media interactions, and to identify the individual involved in her last phone call.
The woman officer was found hanging at her official quarters on the morning of July 4. She was found hanging by other police personnel, who broke the door to her restroom when she did not respond for a long time. She was immediately rushed to the hospital where doctors declared her dead.
