Berhampur: A student of IISER in Berhampur of Odisha’s Ganjam district reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in the hostel on Friday.
As per reports, the student, identified as Satya Samaya Murmu of Dumadihi village in Balasore district, had taken admission in BSc-MSc integrated course in Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) this year. He was staying in a room on 7th floor of BH-1 hostel in the campus for the last few days.
As Satya did not go to attend his classes in the morning, some of his friends came to the hostel to enquire about him at around 2 pm. After repeated knocking on the door of his room, there was no response.
Suspecting something foul, they broke open the door to find Satya hanging from ceiling fan in the room. They alerted the hostel authorities and rushed him to the hospital. But the doctors of the hospital declared him brought dead.
On being informed, police went to the hospital and sent the body for post-mortem. A case of unnatural death has been registered and investigation is on.
