Bhubaneswar: A PhD student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar died after allegedly falling from the sixth floor of a hostel building on the campus.
The deceased has been identified as Tanikonda Nishant Kumar, a rese
arch scholar in the Department of Electrical Engineering. He was a native of Andhra Pradesh.
According to sources, security personnel found the critically injured Nishant lying unconscious on the ground late last night and rushed him to the institute’s on-campus hospital for emergency medical care. On the advice of doctors, he was later transferred by ambulance to a private hospital in the city for advanced treatment. However, he was declared dead upon arrival.
On being informed, Jatni Police arrived at the scene and have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the fall. Further details are awaited.
