Bhubaneswar: The students of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar took to social media platforms to oppose the institute’s move to conduct online examination for the final semester.
The IIT authorities had asked the students to arrange multiple devices to take the examination from June 24. But, 65.4 per cent of them could not arrange the required logistics, according to sources.
Following an unsuccessful mock test on May 9, the students launched a campaign, ‘Save IIT BBS’, on Twitter to express their opposition to the new examination system.
“Every student is not equipped with two phones with different networks and a laptop with a broadband connection. They cannot guarantee zero power-cut. The mock test was a mockery,” a student tweeted.
The students demanded the IIT-Kharagpur’s evaluation process to be followed instead of online method. As per IIT-Kharagpur process, the students are evaluated on the basis of their grades in the mid-semester examination and assignments.
Moreover, the students expressed concern over their job prospects if the institute conducts offline examination in July-end, as decided in its Senate meeting.
The officials of IIT-Bhubaneswar could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
