New Delhi: IIT-JEE is set to go global. The Indian government plans to allow students from 25 countries, including the US, to take the exams.

Among the countries where IIT-JEE will be conducted are the US, Australia, South Africa, Singapore, China, Nepal, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE, according to an IANS report.

Selected students will be offered admission in top engineering colleges of the country other than IITs. Among institutes where these students will be offered admission are the National Institutes of Technology, National Institute of Information Technology, School of Planning and Architecture and other top technical institutions funded by the central government.

Around 3,900 undergraduate and 1,300 postgraduate seats will be set aside for NRIs, Indians and foreign nationals studying abroad. Selected students will be provided admission under the Direct Admission of Student Abroad (DASA) scheme, according to the Union Education Ministry.

Indian Ambassadors in 63 countries have been contacted. Some of these countries are Japan, Netherlands, Russia, South Korea, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Spain, the UK, Australia, Canada, Germany, Thailand, the UAE, Argentina, Brazil, Greece, Cyprus, Iceland and Turkey.

The ministry said that the campaign will not only help India’s higher education institutions to establish cooperation with foreign educational institutions but also motivate foreign universities to send their students to Indian institutions.

IIT-JEE was held in Kuala Lumpur and Lagos last year. Earlier, with the help of the Indian government, the exams were held in 12 countries.
