Chennai: IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti recently spoke about the virtues and benefits of cow unine, or gomutra.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, Kamakoti praised the medicinal value of gomutra.
Endorsing the “anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and digestive properties” of cow urine, Kamakoti said it is useful for conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and hence should be used for its “medicinal value.”
The Director made the observations while speaking (in Tamil) at a Go Samrakshana Sala in Chennai on Maatu Pongal day.
Not surprisingly, his comments drew flak.
Congress leader Karti Chidambaram slammed Kamakoti for “peddling pseudoscience” and said it was unbecoming of him to say things like that.
IIT Madras sources told PTI Kamakoti was invited to the goshala event by virtue of being an organic farmer, and that there was a larger context to his remarks.’
But not many were willing to spare Kamakoti.
Most netizens were on the same page with Karti, and felt that Kamakoti shouldn’t have uttered such thoughts as he holds a very prestigious position.
