IITian Joins Railways As Trackman For Job Security

Mumbai: Lakhs of students every year sit for the coveted IIT-JEE exam with the hope of getting into the hallowed institute and leading a challenging, fulfilling and comfortable life in future.

There are few, however, who think differently. Shrawan Kumar is one of them. For this resident of Bihar, job security precedes everything else.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, Kumar has joined the Indian Railways in a Group D post after clearing the RRB exam. He has attributed this decision to job security.

His job is to look after track maintenance between Chandrapura and Telo Section in Jharkhand.

While his move has baffled the railway establishment, Kumar said he always dreamt of a secure government job and hoped to become an officer in a public sector undertaking in future.

Kumar got into IIT Bombay in 2010 in an integrated dual degree course and passed out in 2015. His batchmates, however, failed to persuade him to join them in the private sector. Kumar was among the best in his class, the report added.
