New Delhi: The IIT-Kanpur is mulling retaining India’s talent by offering students, who crack international Olympiads, an alternative mode of admission.
Students qualifying for Olympiads will be able to apply to the department of their specialised subjects at the prestigious insitutes. However, the decision-making bodies of IIT’s different departments are yet to approve the decision.
According to the chairperson of the undergraduate academic programme review committee at IIT Kanpur, Nitin Saxena, the IIT has launched an alternative mechanism based on principal agreement and there is no guarantee regarding admission of these candidates, yet.
Saxena said that measures will be taken to ensure that only the most qualified candidates get entry into the institute via this route.
In 2018, IIT-Bombay too had granted permission to candidates qualifying for the international mathematics Olympiad to apply for the BSc mathematics programme.
