Sambalpur: In a fresh crackdown on criminal activity ahead of the twin elections in Odisha, the police unearthed an illegal gun manufacturing unit and arrested three persons in Jamankira area of Sambalpur district on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of police personnel conducted a raid at Basupali and unearthed the illegal firearms manufacturing unit. The police initially arrested two persons, Ganesh Singh and Arun Bhoi of Chirgonikhol under Sambalpur police limits.
As per reports, the police also recovered a double-barrel rifle and a single-barrel gun from their possession.
During interrogation, the two revealed the name of one Bidyadhar Pradhan who was engaged in manufacturing and selling illegal firearms.
While Bidyadhar was nabbed, police recovered 20 single-barrel guns, three wooden rifle butts and five barrels with materials used in the manufacture of the country-made firearms.
According to the police, several cases are pending against the three accused at different police stations in the district.
