Illegal Human Trafficking: 50 Agents, Middlemen Held In Odisha

Cuttack: As part of the drive against illegal labour trafficking, the Odisha Police have arrested another 50 agents and middlemen during simultaneous raids in Rayagada, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi district on Thursday night.

Of the 50 arrested persons, 15 have been arrested in Rayagada, 21 from Nabarangpur and 14 from Kalahandi district.

Informing the media here on Friday, Director General of Police (DGP) BK Sharma said the interrogation of these arrested agents and middlemen is underway to ascertain their forward and backward linkages.

With the arrest of 50 agents and middlemen, the total number of arrested persons has gone up to 91, he added.

Earlier on October 5, police had arrested 41 persons from Balangir and Nuapada districts.

This maiden drive of the Odisha Police against illegal human trafficking is a part of 5T initiative, which aims to transform the lives of the common people by preventing their exploitation through illegal trafficking by the agents and middlemen.
