Bhubaneswar: Twin City Commissionerate Police have arrested two persons for producing and storing firecrackers illegally during raids under Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD).
The arrested have been identified as Chandra Sekhar Mallick (24) and Biswanath Mallick (31).
Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra said that 143 kg gun powder and 50 kg iron dust intended for manufacturing firecrackers were seized in Balianta area, where firecracker-related tragedy were reported earlier, on Sunday.
“Two separate cases have been registered at Balipatna Police Station and two persons arrested after failing to produce any valid document or licence. All police stations have been directed to keep a vigil on illegal cracker manufacturing units under their jurisdiction to avoid firecracker-related accidents. Acting on the directive, several raids were conducted in the Bhubaneswar UPD,” he said.
The DCP also informed about seizure of huge amount of illegal firecrackers during recent raids in Jatni and Tamando areas.
