Mumbai: In the latest L’Oréal Paris Lessons of Worth video, its long-time global brand ambassador Aishwarya Rai urges everyone not to let social media define their self-worth.
Reflecting on the brand’s timeless tagline ‘Because you’re worth it’, Aishwarya opens up about how people decide their self-worth through likes, comments, and posts on social media.
Challenging this culture of external validation, Ash firmly states, “I’m worth it, but what really decides that? The kind of pictures posted? The number of likes? Or is it the comments on social media? We have given such power to these things. The power to own our worth.”
Warning about the deeper implications of this social media trend, Ash shared that from the perspective of a mother, she feels it’s a matter of ‘grave concern’.
“There’s not much difference between social media and social pressure. As a woman and a mother, it’s a matter of grave concern to think about the power it can have over young minds. Frankly, even impressionable adults,” she adds.
“This cannot go on. We must make a choice. Let’s not go searching for our self-worth elsewhere, certainly not on social media. Worth is innate,” she says, urging people to introspect.
Soon, the video went viral and struck a chord with fans.
One fan wrote, “I wish half of the world understands what she is saying.”
Another called her message “perfect,”
While some praised her for her wisdom and beauty, others hailed her as the ‘queen’.
