IMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall In 12 Odisha Districts Today

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Centre (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in 12 districts of Odisha on Monday.
According to a release by the IMD’s Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar branch, a cyclonic circulation formed over north-west Bay of Bengal near West Bengal and neighbourhood has concentrated into a low pressure.
Under its influence, there would be heavy rainfall in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jharsuguda, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Sundargarh and Puri with isolated extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places in these districts.
“Apart from this, since there is a strong monsoon current in Odisha, heavy rainfall would continue in Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Bargarh, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khurda, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Rayagada districts for next 48 hours,” Prabir Bal, Duty Officer of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, told the media here.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea for the next 48 hours till August 7 as the surface wind speed will be 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph along and off the Odisha coast. The fishermen, who have gone for the deep sea fishing, have been advised to return to the coast at the earliest.
Acting on the IMD forecast, the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has asked the collectors of the aforesaid districts to stay on alert to meet any eventuality.
