IMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall In Odisha From August 19

Bhubaneswar: With the weakening of the low pressure over the north-east Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas of north Chhattisgarh and south-east of Uttar Pradesh, there will be less rainfall in Odisha over the next two days. Thereafter, the state will experience heavy rainfall under the influence of a fresh low pressure which is most likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal in the next 48 hours.

“The low pressure over the north-east Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas of north Chhattisgarh and south-east of Uttar Pradesh is very likely to move west-northwest and weaken during the next 24 hours. On the other hand, a fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over north Bay of Bengal around August 19, and is very likely to become more marked during the subsequent 24 hours and move westwards gradually. Under its influence, there will be heavy rainfall in Odisha in the south coastal and north interior districts and some areas in the western parts of the state from August 19,” said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in a mid-day bulletin on Monday.

The national weather agency has advised the fishermen not to venture into deep sea area of north Bay of Bengal on August 19 and 20 as squally weather surface wind speed, reaching 40-50 kmph, will make the sea condition very rough.
