IMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: With the forecast of heavy rainfall in Odisha in the next 36 hours by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Odisha government has alerted the collectors of 13 districts.

According to a release by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, a low-pressure area is likely to form over West Central Bay of Bengal and its adjoining areas in the next 36 hours.

Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall would lash at one or two places in the North Odisha districts during the period.

The Met office has predicted isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Sambalpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Cuttack and Dhenkanal and Jagatsinghpur on Sunday while heavy rainfall would lash Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal districts on Monday.

Besides, there would be increased rainfall in the South Odisha districts.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea till next 48 hours till August 7 as the surface wind speed will be 35-45 kmph with gusting to 55 kmph along and off the Odisha coast. The fishermen, who have gone for the deep sea fishing, have been advised to return to the coast by 9 am on Sunday.

Acting on the IMD forecast, the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has asked the collectors of 13 districts to stay alert to meet any eventuality.
