IMD Issues First Cold Wave Warning For Odisha This Winter; 5 Districts Under Alert

Bhubaneswar: For the first time this winter, the regional centre of India Meteorological (IMD) here on Friday issued cold wave warning for Odisha.

“With cold and dry wind blowing into the state from north-west direction, a few districts in North Interior Odisha are likely to experience cold wave conditions during the next two days,” the weather agency posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Yellow warning has been issued for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Angul districts.

Cold wave condition is likely at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Deogarh, and Angul.

Dense fog may also occur at one or two places in Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Jagatsinghpur and Puri.

Shallow to moderate fog is also likely at a few places in Angul, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Boudh, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Ganjam, Gajapati, Khurda, Puri and at one or two places in remaining parts of the state.

Cold wave condition is likely at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Deogarh, and Angul.

Dense fog may also occur at one or two places in Cuttack, Boudh, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Khurda, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Rayagada and Koraput.

Shallow to moderate fog is also likely at a few places in South Odisha and at one or two places in North Coastal Odisha, Angul, and Dhenkanal.

While there will be no large change in the minimum temperature during next 3 days and it is likely to rise gradually by 2-3 degree Celsius thereafter, it added.

Notably, the mercury dropped to 6 degree Celsius at Kirei in Sundargarh district in the last 24 hours. Nine other places in the state recorded night temperature below 12 degree Celsius. Rourkela recorded 7.9 degree Celsius followed by Jharsuguda (8), Sundargarh (9), Angul (10), Koraput (10.1), Ranital in Bhadrak (10.2), Keonjhar (10.4) and Sambalpur and Phulbani at 11 degree Celsius each.

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 15 and 14 degree Celsius, respectively, 1 and 0.8 degrees below normal. Several other places in the state also recoded below normal temperature.
