Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday warned of heavy rainfall on coastal Odisha in the next 12 hours due to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.
IMD said that under the influence of cyclonic circulation over central Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood, a low-pressure area formed over the region with the associated cyclonic circulation on Tuesday morning.
The system is likely become more marked and move initially north-westwards during next 48 hours and then north-north-eastwards during subsequent three days. Under its influence, heavy rain will lash most parts of south coastal districts and some areas in the north coastal districts with isolated heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places.
Apart from the coastal districts, there will be light to moderate rainfall in the remaining parts of the state during the period.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea area of the west-central Bay of Bengal till October 23 as squally weather with strong surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph will make the sea condition rough to very rough.
